Deb Brekke, RN and Director of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation at Mobridge Regional Hospital received this prestigous award at the UPCRA conference in April. Currently, Deb is the UPCRA President, Chair of Nominating and Scholarship Committee and Chair of Policy & Procedure Committee.
Nominations from fellow UPCRA members:
Deb has been a proven leader for UPCRA for many years. She has not only served on most of the committees in the organization, but also led the organization as President in 2005-2007. When our 2009 President realized she could not fulfill her responsibilities to the office, Deb kindly accepted to offer her leadership skills and knowledge of the organization to once again fill the office of President for a six month transition to allow for mentoring of the new president elect. Deb initiated the idea of compiling a Policy and Procedure Book for UPCRA in order to have a clear way of communicating officers', board members', and committee chair responsibilities, allowing for a much more effective way of "passing the torch" to the newly elected.
Deb demonstrates her commitment of the prevention of cardiopulmonary disease, not only by heading her Cardiac Rehab department and living the healthy lifestyle that she teaches her patients, but she continues to further her expertise by working on the requirements to be a certified wellness coach. Deb is a proven leader and we are fortunate to have her as a leader in our organization.
